¿Cómo usar there is and there are en Inglés?
Good afternoon ladies and gents!
Today, we are gonna learn how to use THERE IS / THERE ARE.
We use there is to talk about the existence of something(Lo usamos para hablar de la existencia de algo).
For example,
There is a park in my neighborhood(Hay un parque en mi colonia).
There is a lot of work today (Hay mucho trabajo o chamba hoy).
For negative, we use it as THERE ISN’T / THERE AREN’T
THERE ISN’T is for singular nouns and THERE AREN’T is for plural nouns.
For example,
There isn’t a park in my neighborhood, but there is a gym.
[No hay un parque en mi colonia, pero hay un gimnacio.]
There aren’t many people that speak good English.
[No hay mucha gente que habla buen Inglés.]
To ask questions is even easier. We only invert there is as Is there…?
e.g.
Is there a park in your neighborhood?
Yes, there is.
No, there isn’t.
Are there a lot of people in Chetumal that speak good English?
Yes, there are.
No, there aren’t.
